Default Door locks / inner handle lock position

Looking for some enlightenment on the door locking mechanisms on my 64. I have the Deluxe model that has the inner handle door lock and the keyed lock for the handle tumbler. Obviously the key won't unlock the door when the inner handle is in the lock position.
My question is- If the inner handle is in the lock position, is it supposed unlock when you get out and close the door? I have been locked out numerous times only to be able to get in by reaching through the vent window and pulling the handle. Now that I have repaired the vent window and would like to close it on occasion, I will have no way to reenter the vehicle if locked out again.
Seems like a terrible design if this supposed to be this way.

Thanks in advance!

Default Re: Door locks / inner handle lock position

On my basic 64, when I lock the handle then close the door, the door unlock. I can see the handle popped back up when I close the door.

If the door is closed and lock it from the inside, I can't open it from the outside.

I suspect there is something wrong/different with your door latch. Maybe getting a different latch and try that. Maybe it could be out of adjustment or needs repairs.

That's the way I thought it should be. I wonder if my latch is worn and not triggering the unlock on closing.
Really appreciate the input!
