Perfect examples! The soccer guy had me rolling. A little update about Canada, our embassy just got shot up there today. It's not the canada of the 90s anymore.

Sad to hear that about Canada. I'm not planning to go even near the cities, except Edmonton and Calgary. I'm over in rural Alberta, far away from the craziness and I hope it stays that way. |

I met these folks last year in the US. I have already spent 3 weeks there fixing a bus for them and now I’m coming back for a longer time. I’m glad I can help them out. For me its a way to experience life there and decide if I want to emigrate after a year. |

Last post for a while... Leaving for Canada on Monday.
Hope to score another classic truck there to fix up and drive for the time being. Would love to have a Canadian GMC, like a 67-72 910 or 920. We'll see! I have some exciting news! Thanks to arepoff on the forum I finally got my hands on NOS 478 .030 pistons and rings! Got a ton of bearings too! Now I know this engine is just put together and its running really nice. But I'm still excited that I finally have the parts to make it right right if that makes sense. Hope to bore it .030 over and deck the block someday. That makes me happy. Anyway, I managed to repair a couple of things on the GMC last month. Starting with the hood corner. It was severely rusted out. Thanks to Rustbucket I scored a patch panel to use. I kind of assumed that other than the turn signal lights the hood would be identical. Unfortunately not, and it required quite a bit of fabrication to make those patch panels. A bit over my head, never having done such work, but in the end it all worked out. Still needs some Bondo to finish it all up but black spray paint will do for now. I really need to replace the windshield and do all the rust repairs there but wanted to drive the truck so that will have to be done later. The next project was the rear bumper. I really like the design of the old bumper but it's time to replace it. I could fix it up but I do not like the trailer hitch and the license plate cutout. Plus patching in diamond plate is hard to do. Years ago I scored diamond plate to fabricate a new bumper and since I wanted to keep the truck on the road I figured this would be a nice project to tackle now. Starting off I replicated the old bumper but with a new license plate cutout, more like the Squarebody rear step bumper. I am going to install those nice round license plate lights and paint the whole bumper ivory white. To view some links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. Maybe you should introduce yourself with a new topic? It will also get a nice trailer hitch mounted in the square tubing underneath the bumper in a separate frame. I can't finish the bumper fully before I leave but at least the bumper itself is all welded up and tomorrow I hope to get it all ready for the first layer of paint. I can't say what life will be like in 2027 but I'm never selling the GMC. I hope to tackle the following projects that year: - Stainless steel single exhaust like factory - Windshield replacement and rust repair around windshield - Driver side floor, rockers, cab corner and door rust repairs. - Restore and paint interior - External dent removal, bodywork and paint (flame red) If I find another classic truck in Canada I might start a thread here as well. There's the miscellaneous section for other brands too. Not sure what I might purchase but we'll see. A GMC would be preferable! |
