Default Verifying my setup

6066-

I have a 1963 GMC 2wd, 305, with SM420 4-speed on the floor. I'm trying to verify what I have as the kid I traded for it had zero clue what he had. I thought the truck was a half-ton cause it has 6-lug axles. So I was thinking it had a Dana 44 as a rear. I've been reading other threads and reviewing the picture someone posted about the diff cover. It has a thick rear leaf spring pack, 9 leaves, and what I believe to be a Dana 60 instead, with 6 lug axles. The tag on the cover also says 3.54, so that also leads me to believe this is actually a 3/4 ton with Dana 60 and 6-lugs. I had no idea you could get a Dana 60 with 6 lugs either, is that a rare setup? I tried to post pics from my work computer, but I'm getting blocked, will try to upload them from my phone. Thank you in advance.

Dan

The 6 lug non-floating Dana 60 was an option on 1/2 ton (1000 series) GMC pickups up until at least 1968. Yes, it's a bit rare as most 1/2 ton GMC's used Dana 44's.

Is this what you have?

These came from a CL ad for a 63 GMC 1000 with 6 lugs.
