Default 305E pistons

First forum post ever but here goes. Started a rebuild of a 305E with my daughter from my 67 pickup that will eventually be hers. Everything was going well until the pistons were removed. The block will need to be bored due some scoring and an aggressive ring on the upper and lower portion of all of the cylinders. I’m in need of pistons which I’ve been unable to find. If anyone has oversized pistons (.30 and above) that they’re willing to part with please let me know. Otherwise I guess it’s a 327 SBC and I hate to do it.

The 327 and 350 are the engines of those parade loving, rainbow colored people. You'd have to kys if you did that!
No, lets keep you alive and see what options you have.

Pistons have to be made for our engines because they're so rare anymore. You say "She's got a 305 V6 in her!" and people will correct you, "Don't you mean V8?"
nope, look at these coffee cans, my dude! She can change the earth's rotation if she can get a little traction!

If it were me, and it will probably be one day, I'd just source a repalcement engine. Check with AZKen or Rockdriller and see if they have a spare. Then fire up the shipping tree or give a long haul guy $800-1000 to load it up and get it to you.
Or do a road trip with your daughter. That's a memory you'll both cherish forever!

Some people are like slinkys. Not worth much but funny as heck when pushed down stairs.

At the moment on Ebay there are GMC V6 305 pistions for sale. I have noticed these and others being offered different times as I do a search for spare parts. You say yours is a 305E - I believe the other earlier 305's have a different number of rings but if you could source a complete set of non-E that would work for you. Last 351E/M I had overhauled I brought 2 broken sets of pistons to get 6 I could use because of the weight difference in grams. May take a little looking but E-bay is a good source of parts - but as time goes by OEM parts are getting more scarce.

Thanks for the reply’s. I guess I’ll keep my eyes open and hope I can come up with pistons or maybe a donor.

the only replacement pistons available are the 4-ring type for the A-B-C-D engines. 3-ring pistons have been non-existant for many years. don't be afraid of the 4-ring setup. i think i have a new set of .040" o/s rings for an engine i was building many years ago. if you find a set of .040" 4-ring pistons, let me know and we will work out something. and BTW, welcome to the group as a first-time poster.

Well I found a complete engine that was running when it came out. It made it to my garage and fingers crossed it’s in much better shape than the previous one.

FYI- Olsen’s gaskets out of Washington still offers all of the gaskets needed for a full rebuild.
