I'm having trouble figuring out which Petronix kit I would use for my 65 305E. Lots of them list the 305C but I am not 100% on fitment for my 605 305E. Is it Pertronix 1162a?

I appreciate the help. Will there be a tag on the side of the distributor that gives me numbers or do I have to take cap off/dig deeper?
Also, how do you like it on the V6? |

The correct Pertronix for the earlier V6 with the larger distributors that have the window in the side of the cap is 1164. For the later model V6 with the smaller diameter distributor, the correct model is the 1162A. I've always ordered mine from Retro Rockets, although you can usually get them from local parts stores too.

Hey thanks for the help from all! I'm gonna pull the cap off this weekend and just make sure the previous owner didn't put a petronix in there. That would be nice...
What is the timing advance everyone runs? I have a stick. |

You should be able to tell at a glance if you already have Pertronix installeld, Larry. Installation requires filing a notch in the bottom edge of the cap for a rubber grommet and wire going to the coil.

I have a '65 with a 305e and used the 1162A with the Flame Thrower Cell and thus far it work very well. I have not taken it on an extended trip, but have had it at various speeds including the freeway. I do note that it seems to start much easier with very little choke and idles smoother. No doubt the points it replaced were not perfect. Anyway I am a happy truck/camper without the need to routinely adjust points. Since the new parts are readily available I am not going to carry a spare on an long road trip next summer. I have spent several weeks in a garage in past trips and enjoy carrying my home on the truck:-)
