Fuel Tank Level Sending Unit
Can't find a quality fuel tank level sending unit. Only ones I can find are of poor quality and don't last.

Re: Fuel Tank Level Sending Unit
I ordered a new sending unit from classicparts.com a couple of years ago and its been working fine ever since.
Granted, I drive mostly on propane, but I always keep some gas in the tank for emergency etc. Can you confirm that the sending unit goes out or is there a fault in the wiring/fuel gauge/ground? |
Re: Fuel Tank Level Sending Unit
The sending unit is faulty. The rivet that connects to the resistance strip is made of brass which corroded (bimetal) and wasn't properly seated. This is the second or third one in a row that failed.

Re: Fuel Tank Level Sending Unit
No option to just make a new rivet from a different material?

Re: Fuel Tank Level Sending Unit
I use a dip stick.

We live in a Chinese product world. It's hit and mis. Pretty weird you got three from the same company. Better read Albert Einstein's theory on that. :) Sometimes we do have to "tweak" and "fix" parts or send it back. Big pain.
Haven't seen corrosion on brass inside a gas tank. What vendor are you using? |
Re: Fuel Tank Level Sending Unit
Spectra Premium makes a high-quality fuel sending unit sold under the Dorman Brand. Part # FG119 A ((692-134 cross ref.)
https://ecat.spectrapremium.com/en/parts/FG119A https://www.jegs.com/i/Dorman-Produc...2-134/10002/-1 The JEGS image is not the same as Spectra. As you can see it has a much better potentiometer design. Pricey...but worth the peace of mind. Been through a half dozen of the flaky imitations that will leave you low and dry. |
