Seat Foam for 1963 GMC 1500
2 Attachment(s)
All,
I'm redoing the original seat in a 1963 GMC 1500. The old one was shot - the mice had a field day in there over the years. Finding anything similar to OE to replace the padding has been a challenge. I looked and looked and finally ordered a replacement foam padding set and some upholstery covers from b62upholstery online. It's nice stuff but I've got a challenge now. The seat bottom foam is 3" thick, laid over burlap. It's apparently thicker than the original padding was, such that I'm not sure I can attach the seat back now. See attached photo of bolt hole riding above the mark where it must attach. Any experience with this? I'm thinking of either trying to compress the foam enough to attach it, or perhaps cut it thinner where the seat back would sit over it. Or maybe I need to go to a thinner foam. Advice or experience appreciated. |

In my opinion, I think it would be better to trim the foam in the seat back cushion. Cause trimming the seat cushion foam would make the seat strange looking.

James, thanks for the reply. That's a good idea; unfortunately I've already got the back foam flush with the bar that goes across so there's no room for improvement there. I agree on what you say about the bottom. I was thinking maybe I could gradually shape it so it wasn't obvious once covered.
I have seen others in various forums that say they've used 3" foam so I'd sure like to know the secret to getting this back attached. Thanks again |
