My 64's 305 v6 has a 2 bolt starter...one on the bottom...super easy to get to, and one on the top....PAIN IN THE REAR! Maybe its cause its Friday and I'm tired.....But I had to take a 5/8 short socket, a swivel, and Two Long extensions, and a ratchet because the darn exhaust manifold was in the way! So this is my rant and rave because my 6 cylinder spoils me. It took me 20 minutes to get this starter off and on my 6 cylinders it took me 5. Now when I get my new starter I have to figure out how to get the darn top bolt back in!!! Course maybe things will be a Tad bit better when the exhaust manifolds aren't hot. lol Help would be cool!

Things like that go a lot easier if you have an air wrench. After you find the right extension/universal combo you just pull the trigger. Maybe try between exhaust and block, instead of outside of exhaust.
After chasing threads in bell housing and on bolt, thread in all the way by hand , then secure with wrench. Last edited by AZKen; August 15th, 2015 at 07:29 AM. |

Thanks for the reply. lol I did end up getting the starter off. I'm gonna dig into it and see if a good scrubbing will fix the problem.

Ended up having the ol starter rebuilt by a friend of mine. Putting it back on was easier as I was dealing with cold manifolds. lol She cranks right over with No issue now!
