Group,
i have scored a heavily optioned 1964 Carryall out of central Texas (Crawford, where G.W Bush has his ranch) and am in need of a Rockwell t221 transfer case. One of the PO's removed the t case and installed a drive shaft directly to the sm-420. I would like to get it back to original. I have two t cases but the input shaft has a wear ring that’s unacceptable.... The other case must have had the same issue because the input is missing completely. I assumed it checked out of the case due to the gear damage and metal fragments. Please help if you can. I have found a rebuild kit but a t case that’s functional will be the best bet. A little about the Carryall. Options - Custom cab trim, PB, PTO winch, AC (at one time, been removed), 4x4, tach. The truck was sitting in a barn for over 15 years. At one point in its life it was used on a hunting ranch in east Texas. I haven’t started working on it but it does run and drive.... Once I get my 305e swap done on my slammed short wide I will be starting this project. My short wide started off as an eBay buy and was originally a 230 with zero compression. I took my old 305e and shoe horned it in (thanks to a group member, Pete, for the engine brackets out of California) I added the HEI conversion along with a Holly. Sounds mean for a v6 with no exhaust. The suspension is all Early Classic Enterprises. I am un sure of the stance but I am shooting for a 3/5 drop. Early Classic offers drop leaf springs which seem to be nice. I have them installed. The truck has to be together and ready for a long trip that will start in Houston Texas and end at my friend’s wedding in Western New York next June. That should be interesting to stay the least. That’s my kind of vacation. Thanks for the help. Matthewj Houston Texas formerly out of Little Rock AR. |

It's really difficult to find really good old rock wells. If you are not trying to do a nuts and bolts restoration get a NP 205 out of an old international truck or an early 70's dodge 4x4. These are divorced cases and pretty easy to find. The also swap in easily and are WAY STRONGER than the 221. My local pull and save has these all the time and they run 60.00 bucks. Throw another 50 for seals and oil and they will run forever. Barry
