I think you guys are onto something.
Tom and I made sure to set the distributor to initial advance but as you mentioned the vacuum advance is stuck. At least the canister wasn't moving, and on the initial videos you could hear it kick back on the starter significantly, indicating too much initial timing.

From what I could see the spark was definitely good and strong now.

The video he sent me this morning sounded much better, it was trying to run. Told him to move add a little more initial timing but haven't heard since.

Hey everybody,

It took a while, but the fault has been found. The timing chain failed and disintegrated into pieces. I’ve attached two photos.

Twenty-one links are missing; I found four. The chain was installed (new) in 2021 and has covered a maximum of 200 miles since then.

What’s your take? Poor quality or other factors? I couldn't find anything unusual; the sprockets are fine, and the Woodruff keys and shafts also appear to be in good condition.

I ordered a new one and another brand (Melling 166) from Rockauto, hoping it lasts longer.

Ouch that's scary. Did they put a new chain on old gears?

I never heard of changing the gears too, but maybe you're supposed to. I wonder if Summit or some other quality manufacturer makes a chain that would fit?

It is pushing a billion pounds of crank and pistons, so it's gotta be tough.

I always change the sprockets when I install a new chain.

(sorta related) I also did motorcycle too, drive chain and sprockets.

I was taught to replace them as a set and soak them with lube. If he chain is worn then then it stands to reason that the gears would have some wear. Not saying it can't be done especially nowadays when its so tough to find parts, let alone quality parts. The worn gear maybe be far superior the the part your replacing it with.

Does the damage seem to be on one side of the chain?
