If you ordered your brake parts you have to exchange them or cancel the order now. Disc brakes need different offset wheels than the original drum brake wheel. I myself would cancel that order I figure out what you need for wheels for the conversion on both front and rear axles. You may (probably) will have a problem doing the change over. I would drive the truck the way it is and not overdrive your brakes - along with not overdriving you headlights.

Welcome Hank.
It is not clear if you or your wife have driven this truck yet. Sometime around 1971 I drove my '60 1500 though a ford (pardon me) in a local river, about 12" deep. Going down the next hill the brakes worked very poorly until they dried out. That is the only trouble I have had with them. I suppose discs might have helped. I also have the center mounted driveshaft emergency/parking brake. Is that unusual in a 1960 3/4? |

Exchange or cancel, two totally different courses of action there. What are my options for exchange? You don’t even know what I purchased. As I said previously, I don’t have stock rims. They are one piece. If I need new rims, so be it. Yes, I’m expecting problems with the conversion. But nothing along the lines of impending doom. When you come at someone that strong, it’s helpful if you cite some references or experience. I have no experience and I phoned the vendor to discuss before I ordered the parts, everything checked out. I appreciate your response and the time you took to weigh in. I hope for my sake you’re not saying I told you so but your advice is reckless at best.

Both my wife and I have driven the truck. We like it and enjoy the nostalgic experience. This truck will most likely not have a trailer hooked up to it or anything heavier than my two Troy Bilt tillers on the bed. I mention that because that’s all I’ve ever “hauled” with it so far. This truck will be a driveway queen. I can’t speak to the center mounted parking brake handle. One other member mentioned something about it previously in this thread.

I brought the truck home this past Sunday. I measured the wheelbase and it’s right at 155”. I think the frame has been stretched. I’ll confirm when I get the planks removed from the bed. I measured the bed too, it’s all of 10’ long.
