My 66 Suburban came with this Ammeter you see here but its gonna need total restoration including re-chroming of the bezel etc if its ever gonna look like anything again - so does anyone on this board happen to be hoarding a NOS one or real clean original they would let go of? I can send this one out just hate to spend that much on it if I don't have to - a lot of you live in considerably less humid states than Alabama so there's a good chance one of you has one still in close to prestine shape maybe....let me know? Thanks, Steve

If no one replies, I've been toying with the idea of doing my own re-chroming when I get to that point. Here's a decent writeup on it. If you get a wild hair one day you might give it a shot.

In the mean time, try simple green and 0000 steel wool, gently. Sometimes it works and removes surface rust and shines chrome. Also, if it functions electrically, you can use a chrome bezel from other gauges you may find. If the font/sweep is not matching other gauges, maybe it is a PO installed aftermarket. In which case maybe a nostalgic style new one will suffice.

Hi everyone. I have been looking around this site for about three years and I figure it about time I put in my two cents. I will be posting picture of my truck shortly.
About the ammeter you can buy a new Stewart Warner ammeter that is very similar to the one you have. It should wire up the same way. |
