Have a carb question. Looked at a 65 GMC today with 351 V6 and it had a single barrel carb. Could not see the brand. Who makes those and was a single barrel standard on the V6? Thanks

I had a single barrel Holley on my 61 that was factory, so it was standard for my 305A engine.

Better look again. 351 with a 1 bbl? Seems odd. Should have a Bendix Stromberg WW 2 bbl. Other 2 bbl's will work. Early 305 V6's had 1 bbl. Look at motor number again and look down carb throat again. Just for good ol time sake......and my education.

The small size of the WW carb may appear to fool some that it's a 1bbl but like AZKEN says look down the throat of the carb. Quite a few years back someone on Jolly's site told me they had a 1bbl on a 64-65 305E, I thought that was odd so I had the person post a pic of the carb on the engine and of course it turned out to be a WW 2bbl which was a surprise to the owner of the truck

Was told the truck came out with a 305 and owner, in his younger days wanted more power so he changed it out and installed a 351 out of a Coke truck. He must have used the old intake and carb, if that would be possible.

It is possible intakes could be switched but why would anyone want to down grade a larger engine to a 1bbl carb? The 351 V6 would be starving for fuel with a 1bbl carb. You really need to gets some pics out to us to see what you have. 1bbl Holley carburetors were used on 60-61 305A V6 engines and midyear 61 the 305D V6 with 2bbl carb was introduced, lot of 305A engines at the time were retrofitted to 2bbls as well. Larger medium duty trucks from 60-61 also came with the standard 305B engine with the Zenith 1bbl carb, yet there was the optional 305C V6 with the WW 2bbl as well in those two model years.

I had a 1 barrel Holley 1902 model and made the switch over to a dual intake 500 CFM Holly. I also have a used Stromberg single barrel Model WW if anyone needs it.

The truck owner was here today picking up milk and I ask him about it. He said it was a 1 barrel Stomberg and it came that way straight out of the Coke truck.

Straight out of the coke truck but not straight out of the factory. That's the point. There was a Stomberg BX 1 bbl way early. 30's, 40's. Someone did switch it I think, but maybe it had something to do with "coke truck". As BBV6 says, it sure defeated the purpose of "getting more power".
BTW, I need a Holley 1 bbl from a 305. |
