Hello, I would like to know what year each was first offered, and in which models. Were there any differences. Maybe paint scheme/colors, shifter/turn signal knobs, etc. I have what I believe to be a 1965 or 66 Chevy TH-400 Column. The column is black, and the collar and yoke behind the wheel are a sort of dull brownish gold color. The shifter arm has a rubber boot at the base. Is this common to both makes. Finally, does anyone have any pictures of these in original condition? I have a picture of mine in parts. Maybe we can narrow down what it came from. Thanks for any help, Greg Mead

I know the TH400 was officially first available in 1966 for Chevy trucks (3/4 tons only). However, I'm told some snuck out in late 65. GMC literature states that the TH400 was newly-available in 1966. Not sure if any snuck out of GMC early like happened with the Chevys. I've been looking for an example of a V6 GMC backed with a factory TH400 auto and have yet to see one.

I've seen a few 3/4 ton 66 GMC pickups with the Turbo 400 but they were powered by the 351E V6.

Strong chance GMC didn't because the Turbo 400 option was introduced with the introduction of the 351E V6 for 1966 even if it was available with the 305E.

any chance you could upload a pic or two of the 67 TH-400 Column? As for an update, I have finally finished straightening the stamped steel turn signal cover. I have also prepped the indicator and yolk for paint. I already hit the shaft cover with semi-flat black. I installed a NOS bearing at the bottom of the shaft cover. I have all the new internals and the shifter/turn signal arms. All that is left is to paint everything and assemble. Pictures coming soon. (I have been offline for 4 months). The only part I do not have yet is the collapsible steering shaft. I do not even know what it looks like as I have not run across one yet. Any pictures of one greatly appreciated. Thanks, GM
