Just wondering if anyone has converted their Suburban with clam shell tailgate to gas springs ( hydraulic type) on the upper tailgate as I have one missing and they seem to be made from "unobtainable".
Was wondering if possible to convert and if so an idea of what strut you guys have used. |

It can be done. I have retrofit machinery with gas struts before. You need to know the open length to the connection points, the closed length to the connection points, and the weight to be supported (per strut). Then you need to see what is available and the connector style (ball joint or eye).
