Re: "Papa Smurf" - 1966 GMC 1500 Custom
Got some deadlines to hit, which means I won't be able to practice welding as much as I want. I had to get moving on fixing my truck.
Unfortunately that means the welds are ugly as can be. But they should work great for this application.
First I ground down the old welds on the arm that was cracked. Tacked both ends of it, then buzzed across where the old weld was. That sealed up those cracks.

On the other side I buzzed it a few times due to the length of one prominent crack. This created a large buildup of metal. I ground it down and welded it one last time.

Once that was all done, I grabbed some 1/8" thick flat iron, about 3/4" wide, and I bent it around the tube and up the arm. Welded that into place for reinforcement.

Cleaned up all the spatter, gave it a coat of rust inhibitor, and slapped it on the truck with new bushings.
