So my JEEP is back on the road, just in time for next cold front. When I took the belt off the outer ring practically fell off. I'm going wheeling in a few weeks; glad this happend when it did.

You must have the 4.0 engine. I had a similar problem with the 4.0 in my Jeep, one weekend when rock crawling I heard a little bit of squealing and it turned out the balancer was walking front to back and cutting into the timing cover but that all stopped at highway speeds, never the less I changed the balancer a few days later.
