I don't know if it's entirely true, but supposedly they had a GMC‑designed V8 from 66 to 72 that was 637 cu in -10.4 liters.
Holy cow.

because of the Canadian versions of GMC trucks of the era-- the 910, 920, & 930 series were all chevy powered.

That's definitely true, Fetch. The 637 V8 had the same bore and stroke as the 478 V6. It was a replacement for the 702 V12. Almost the same power, but much shorter and lighter in weight.

Hi Lewis, so what Chevy motors were available? 283? Are you saying no V6 in Canada 60-66?
If they had a Chevy V8, what about the V6 hood emblem?

What about the law suit in 1959 against GMC for using Pontiac V8 with a GMC sticker? Using Chevy motors is the same false advertising issue?

Anyway the question still remains. Were there any USA GMC's with factory option for a 283 V8 in 60-66? AI and Wiki say yes but I have learned NOT to trust those resources. I trust 6066GMCCLUB only.

gmc of canada used only chev motors 60-66 and only corporate rear axles instead of Spicer/Dana. gmc of canada used the 283, 327(when it became available) and the 6 cyl inline engines. no V6 engines were made available to Canadian trucks.

I have never found any evidence there actually was a lawsuit regarding GMC's use of Pontiac engines '55-'59. During the same time GMC also used Oldsmobile V-8 engines in some of the larger trucks. In both instances, the Pontiac and Oldsmobile engines were not the same as those used in their respective cars. In fact, the '58 and '59 Pontiac V-8's in GMC's were not even the same displacement. If anyone can produce evidence of this lawsuit, I would really like to see it.

Common knowledge Oshawa built GMC's from '55 on used Chevy V-8's. Most all of those stayed in Canada.

From 1964 on the Chevrolet built 230 and 292 in-line 6's were optional in GMC trucks. The Chevrolet 283 and 327 became R.P.O. in GMC light trucks halfway through the 1967 model year. The Suburban and Panel models got the V-8's at the start of the model year.

Here is the original sales literature announcing the availability of the Chevy 283 and 327 in the light duty line dated 4-67.
