Wheels and tires for a 1966 GMC 1-ton
Good afternoon,
I am looking for recommendations on replacement wheels for my 1966 1-ton. It is currently sitting on the original tires and Split Rim wheels. Understanding that most tire shops will not touch the split rims, what have others done. I have looked at some options, but thought I would ask around. Thanks GE |

I have wheels off a GMT800 HD. That's what was on the truck when I bought it. I can mimic the size of the wheels that would have been on our truck, which keeps the speedometer fairly accurate. 235/75/R16. For tires I have Hercules TerraTrac CH4. I believe mine are 10-ply. Fairly inexpensive and so far very comfortable. If you don't plan to do any heavy towing and hauling you can use 6-ply tires instead.
Otherwise just about any 8 lug GM wheel should work up to about 2010. The lug pattern changed around then. The older, thinner wheels are better for reducing steering effort though. |
