1965 gmc 4000
I purchased a GMC 4000 title states 1965. I am having trouble finding information, it runs and drives but the entire air cleaner is missing, are these universal? Title states 26000 GVWR but I don't see any info plaques and my serial number seems to start with all 0's. Will add pictures tomorrow.

That old fella's cooler than the other side of the pillow. The air cleaner would be based on the engine. Which engine is in it?

If you look on the right head toward the front, just to the left of the water pump connection and above the fuel pump, you should see a little "shelf" spot with numbers on it. It'll tell you if it's a 305, 351, etc. You might need to wipe the oil and other stuff off of it to see it.

Re: 1965 gmc 4000
Wow, that truck looks in really good shape for being 57 years old! Does it run? 4 spd Trans and 2 speed axle?
I hope it's got at least a 351 Cid engine, 26,000# is WAY too much for a 305. I used to drive Chevy C65's with 366 Big blocks, 4 bbl carb, and 5+2 loaded to 30,000# gross and they struggled to get up to speed and hold it. |
Re: 1965 gmc 4000
the STOCK engine is a 305-C. The optional engine was a 351-C. the S/N won't tell which it came with, only the data plate inside the glove compartment lid or the engine itself. As has been previously stated, the engine id pad on the front RH side of the block, directly in front of the RH cylinder head. Also, the VIN plate is riveted at the top of the LH door opening and the gvw plate is attached on the LH kick panel under the dash.

Re: 1965 gmc 4000
The GVW of 26,000 seems high for a 4000 with 5-10 Wheels, but as mentioned check your Glove Box Door and/or the Plate on the Kick Panel.
Interesting truck. Keep us posted on it. |
Re: 1965 gmc 4000
Also, the Air Cleaner may have been an Oil Bath, but I would put any thing suitable on there for the time being. You should be able to find an original out there somewhere, but it may take a thorough research.
