Gmc v-6 a/c
2 Attachment(s)
A bit ago I was reading the list of GMC for sale on Hemmings.com I found a 1965 for sale with a V-6 with A/C, I've attached the pictures.
This give us another option, without a OEM factory bracket AND power steering. I've called the auction company to see if they will take better pictures and send them, but it look like a simple rear brace and a over the counter front brace? I know it isn't that simple, but we may give us another option for those with power steering, I cant use the bracket that we made by another BB member. Let me know what ya think. |
Re: Gmc v-6 a/c
looks interesting, would solve power steering clearance issue. need better pics, doesn't look like much surface area for belt on water pump pulley:unsureGMC:

Re: Gmc v-6 a/c
OK I just spoke with the auction company and they confirmed this is a vintage air setup, its not listed as a "kit" but the brackets are bought individual, you need a tensioner (as shown) I'm sending an email to VA to see if they can identify the brackets as shown. The owner bought the truck with the A/C setup.

Re: Gmc v-6 a/c
I have a '66 305 with an add on Techumseh style A/C compressor. It's buried in the storage building but next year I'm going in there to do some work. Would any numbers off that help?

Re: Gmc v-6 a/c
If we can get just one bracket, I'd be more than willing to help share the cnc cutting cost IF we could be something that worked.

Re: Gmc v-6 a/c
I may have a set of the one and only, true, real deal holyfield factory AC brackets GMC made for this engine I could send you to replicate from. Easy work overall as this spare set was already re-made using my original bracket set I lent a buddy so he could make them, and they turned out perfect. Using GM's already-engineered work to re-make the brackets you need allows you to use the A6 or the newer high efficiency A6 look-alike compressor on the left side of the V6, and it clears the power steering pump perfectly.
I will also make a post of my 1965 factory Air find I just brought home from Colorado and I will detail the bracket setup to see if this is a set you want to replicate. You'd still struggle with V6 pulleys maybe but there are enough of those around off 401, 378 and other "big truck" applications to dig up some pulleys or maybe someone will get clever and have some spun up from billet. For anyone with questions about the GMC factory assembly-line installed AC that was first offered in 1965, buzz me anytime at 256 486 1988. I have learned a lot in my years and am the only person in the country who has really focused on GMC AC knowledge through owning 3 complete operating factory AC trucks and multiple loose systems. |

Dang gmcnut I hope you're 25 years old because if you go meet Jesus and take that knowledge with you before I get to working on AC stuff I'm going to be sorely disappointed. You should start an AC thread I can subscribe to and post the brain food! |
