U9000.<------anyone know what this means
1 Attachment(s)
Hail? My 1966 1500 has this decal reading "U900" on each side of the front fender, the truck was like likely originally purchased in western Colorado although I'm not 100% positive of that. I'm curious if anybody knows the significance of this decal. Some people have speculated that it may have been something related to a government issued truck or something.

It was probably a unit number for some kind of truck fleet. It could have been private business or a government entity, like city, county state etc.
I could load and flip your second pic but the first one would not come up and load for me. Great looking GMC---DAC |
Re: U9000.<------anyone know what this means
Back in the days of the ICC all trucks in Utah had to show the registered weight, so a 3/4 ton truck most of the time had U9000, meaning Utah 9000 lbs.
What that tells you is this truck once lived in Utah. |
Re: U9000.<------anyone know what this means
I believe the truck was once in Grand Junction, Colorado... Which is about as close to Utah as you can get!
I was told when I bought it that "two owners ago" it was bought in Grand Junction, but that is just what I was told. The Utah link is certainly interesting though. What's ICC? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: U9000.<------anyone know what this means
The Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) was a regulatory agency in the United States created by the Interstate Commerce Act of 1887. The agency's original purpose was to regulate railroads (and later trucking) to ensure fair rates, to eliminate rate discrimination, and to regulate other aspects of common carriers, including interstate bus lines and telephone companies. Congress expanded ICC authority to regulate other modes of commerce beginning in 1906. The agency was abolished in 1995, and its remaining functions were transferred to the Surface Transportation Board.
