More Questions from a Newby: Air Pump

Why would my 1960GMC 305A motor have an "air pump"? I was thinking it can not be a smog pump in 1960? What exactly is it? Do I need it? I hope it is an air pump I'm looking at? motor came mostly dis assembled.

Well I guess it's a smog pump. I'm guessing it fell into the pile of parts the PO had. Don't think they were on 1960 V6. Is this correct? 10 years too early? If I remember 71-72 is the last ,fast, no smog, Chevy V8. HP went down after that. If you find a 70-71-72 454 BB, you are one lucky dude or duchess. My all time (old time) favorite motor....besides a 305 GMC V6 monster BB, which I just met.

Ken/Bart. You have your wtb plaid valve cover add in the wrong spot on stove bolt. Post it here and in the right spot there. Barry. Aka the boatman.
