Re: Thanksgiving
Happy Turkey Day! I just read that Thanksgiving wasn't even a holiday with turkey etc. until the gal that ran the 1800's version of "Woman's Day" got a bug in her butt that everyone should cook a huge turkey meal and celebrate it as a national holiday. She spent THIRTY SIX YEARS lobbying politicians to get it nationally recognized. She wasn't above using her power at the magazine to push the idea to the masses to get them to write to congress either. Her children during this time were totally ignored, ironically.
She finally got her way when she was able to proposition America's least state-interested president when she got a "private audience" with him in a sweaty summer of 1863. Old Abe dusted off his pen and made it so. FDR later moved the day to a week earlier because retailers needed more time to prep for Christmas, but it messed up football schedules and ticked off Republicans. So for 2 years if you were Republican you celebrated on the last Thursday in November, if you were Democrat you celebrated on the third Thursday in November. Congress put a stop to that after the 2 years of mayhem and declared the fourth Thursday to be the one true Thanksgiving. Two weeks later FDR delcared WWII. Was it spite? Who knows. |
Re: Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!! Of all that each one has to be thankful for, the greatest blessing we have to be thankful for is the offer of forgiveness through faith in the shed blood of our Savior, Jesus the Christ, the only Son of God. Praise His Holy Name!!!!!

Greetings to one and all!
Wishing all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving! If you are traveling, drive safely! |
Re: Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving. It is a traditional Holiday. A person may give thanks to whomever or whatever a person wishes. It's not a religious Holiday like Christmas. You can pray or be with family or give thanks or watch Football. It can be a secular occasion. This is a GMC Truck Site. Not a pulpit.

Re: Thanksgiving
I give thanks to all who have sacrificed in our Military, for you all to be able to give a sermon about your beliefs. I hope you realize there are many other opinions and religions, races, cultures, secular persons in America. Jewish, Hindu, Mormon, Buddhist, Muslim, Atheism, Catholic, Jehovah Witness, scientology and none of the above.........
Do you want to hear from all of them? +1? The point is that this is NOT the place. That is the only point. Don't miss the point and blast the quote again. That is rude. |
Re: Thanksgiving
I started a thread Happy Thanksgiving and Lewis stated who he gives his thanks to, and I happen to agree ,simple as that. He still has that right so far in the USA. Sorry you took offense to that. Dave

Re: Thanksgiving
I believe that Religion and Politics should not be discussed at the Thanksgiving table. Just a reminder to keep the pushing of any agendas like: religious, cultural, gender orientation, race or political, out of 6066GMCCLUB...... (and possibly dinner :)). You will always offend otherwise. Everyone should know that by now. "Happy Thanksgiving" was enough to express good wishes to members. Like everyone else did.
Have a good one Dave and Lewis. |

Re: Thanksgiving
If you think that what Lewis posted is general discussion, you do need schooling. It's not a political correctness issue. It's way deeper than that. I tried to explain it but you are stuck in a rut. Post anything you want. But don't be surprised if sometimes there are other perspectives. You are the one who doubled down.

Re: Thanksgiving
I was going to stay out of this one, but feel the need to say. Is thanking God against the rules here on these boards? If so, we need to know it. If not, I'll say what I have said on other boards when the need arises. If someone doesn't like what we are talking about, just don't click on it.

Re: Thanksgiving
I hope someone out there gets what I'm saying about a specific post, before more words are put in my mouth and the subject is changed to not thanking God, God and Guns and saying Merry Christmas. This fake news stuff won't get it boys. Nice try. I said nothing about you, or to you, Bill. There is no "we" and us and them. I click where I want to click.

Ken, you know I appreciate your help here, but the second you said "I believe" you did the exact same thing you jumped on Lewis for. I personally believe you need some Jesus, but jumping on others for saying they're thankful for Jesus is uncalled for. Let him be thankful for Jesus, that bald idiot Buddah, the other incestuous idiot Muhammad, or any of the other monsters that aren't Jesus. I don't care. But I'll be danged if i'm going to jump on any American for expressing their thankfulness grounded in our Christian roots. The country could use 1000% more Jesus and a lot less back-biting. We used to be so good when 90% of the country was practicing Christian. Look at us now! Breaks my heart to see what we had then vs. where we're at now. And to top it off I think PC nonsense like that is making it so much worse by preventing us from talking to each other at all. Nothing fills that hole in your soul like Jesus. You can try to fill it with anger, money, drugs, booze, or women. It never works long term. |

You miss the point entirely. Who's a Christian group? Do each of us speak for the whole group? No. Do each of us speak together in this? Seems pretty close to it. I bashed those two because this is America (Speech is free) and my own research turned up several fun facts about both of those nasty fellas that would curl your toenails. It isn't undeserved. Like I said, you need some Jesus Ken. You'll always be an angry, sad guy until you get your soul straight and stop trying to be a mayonnaise American. |
Re: Thanksgiving
I have nothing against Lewis. He is a Southern Baptist Pastor. He is Bivocational Minister.
In saying all that he said, he is discussing religion in mixed company. Espousing a fixed interpretation and exclusionary of all other thoughts. I "believe" that should not be done here. I "believe" it needed to be said that this type of long comment is a sermon and says "we all" need to do this or that. I believed it would cause a discussion where animosity always ensues. Angry name calling, insults, belittling comments like: a person needs more Jesus. Angry, sad guy. It is sad and hurts to hear you think that. My point did not deserve that. Religion, Politics and agendas don't belong here. I was cautioning him, not bashing him. Cautioning us all. Didn't sink in. It was a simple observation and I believe I've been proven right. You all gave way to hate. You see everything as an attack on Christianity. It makes you feel better to smite. I will turn the other cheek. |

It is an attack on Christianity when the very mention of Jesus has someone mashing the "triggered" button when a simple "Happy Thanksgiving to you too, Lewis" would have sufficed. And, this is the General Discussion forum. Anything not truck related or fitting the other forums goes here. |
Re: Thanksgiving
A simple Happy Thanksgiving is what Lewis forgot, not me. This general discussion is over for me. You will regret your comments in time.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all. |

I'm sure once it's illegal to be Christian and the new world makes it synonymous with Nazi it'll be a different, but for now I'm proud of my comments. He didn't hurt anyone or jump on their toes. But you did. |
