Bought a New GMC
Yesterday I just made a deal on a 1965 GMC 5000 with a supposed 351. Going to go pick it up tomorrow morning. It is an ex-fire truck, only has 40,000 miles and is straight as an arrow, rust free and near-new tires. Pictures to come when I pick it up.

Re: Bought a New GMC
Sounds like a nice truck.
Will be looking forward to the pictures. |
Re: Bought a New GMC
These old fire trucks some time don't get too many miles on them, other get beat into the ground. I be standing by for photos of this find.

Yes, the wiring needs work but for firing up with just little priming after sitting for a few years, I am plumb happy. |

One day I really want to get one of those, there is a GMC pumper truck around here Some where. Saw it at the bank and bar and haven't since.

Re: Bought a New GMC
Looks like it has All Wheel Drive.
Also looks like it's a 6500 with that Front Bumper on there. |

Can anybody tell me what kind of conversion used this transfer case? Marmon Harrington?

It is a New Process 540 or 541 I think. I have to make room to get it in the shop out of the cold before I do too much more investigating. |

Had a little time the other day so I jerked the plate off and stuck an old flatbed that I had laying around on it.
Attachment 6303 While it was in the shop, I wanted to do something about the lack of a floor mat. Since a new repop obviously isn't available and NOS is too spendy and hard to come by, I decided to make my own thinking it shouldn't be too hard since there is no hump in floor like pickups have. One $37 3/4" thick horse trailer mat later and I have a floor mat. Attachment 6302 While I still think it is a great idea, there are a couple problems. 1) Getting it in the truck was the hardest workout I have had in a long time. Trying to wrestle a 100 pound wet noodle into the cab of a really tall truck and trying to snake it around the steering wheel and three shifter levers proved to be quite difficult. 2) Being 3/4" thick, it really isn't overly flexible. I'm hoping that some 100* days this summer will help it lay out to the floor board a bit, but I'm a little skeptical of whether or not it actually will. |
Re: Bought a New GMC
Personally I like it better with a nice long trailer and a load on it. lol But the flatbed looks good! How'd that 351 pull?

Re: Bought a New GMC
That's not bad considering the load and only 351 cubes though. If it had a 478 it'd a done way better. Big rig needs a ton of cubes. I'm still surprised at how well my little 305E tows. lol Course....10K is like a tenth of what That load weighs! :teehee:
