GMC 1962 - 3/4 t - Long bed - 305ci - 4 speed
5 Attachment(s)
Hello,
I'm Dylan and I recently purchased a very nice GMC truck. It has its nice patina, imported from California, 3/4t, long bed, 305ci V6, 4 speed SM420. A very nice truck which is quite rare where I am living, in Belgium, Europe. I'm now waiting for my insurance; getting the license plate then on the road! I'm planning to do a good maintenance in the following weeks: oïl, coolant, brakes, rear axle and transmission. I'm planning to leave it as is, stock, no mods at all except a radio I think. Thanks Dylan |

Welcome Sponge from across the pond!
Nice truck and cute kids. Dig those chrome valve covers and kool to see pics from abroad and the neighborhood too. |
Re: GMC 1962 - 3/4 t - Long bed - 305ci - 4 speed
Welcome! And super glad your leaving the v6 in there. To many people take these perfectly good engines and dump them for sbc's. Glad your another in the crowd keeping it. :ok: Dig the chrome valve covers!

Thank you guys.
I agree, chromed valve cover isn't nice but keep in mind it is quite hard to find stock GMC valve cover with gasket over here. I would need to find used one with a set of gasket in order to keep the stock look but not on my priority list for now. I'm discovering this beast because here it is a big truck, way bigger than my familly car in length and width hey hey... I also noticed the water temp gauge doesn't read anything, I put the wire to ground and Nothing so either the wire is cut somewhere or not connected or worst thing, shot water temp gauge. The speedometer doesn't work but the cable is there so got to check if the gear cable isn't cut in the cable housing or it is worst or not. Other than than, check this out, for the radio, the previous owner trimmed the radio opening so I'll suffer to find something fitting into this.... |
Re: GMC 1962 - 3/4 t - Long bed - 305ci - 4 speed
I think you might have read us wrong. lol Dig the chrome valve covers means we Like them. haha It's rare having chromed ones on a v6.

The chrome valve covers look great:thumbsup:, don't worry to much about a total stock look under the hood, I had my valve covers chromed on my 68 K2500 and wouldn't have it any other way,:upyes:

If you burry them I'll dig them up and keep them. Have you seen the Plaid vale covers?

Re: GMC 1962 - 3/4 t - Long bed - 305ci - 4 speed
Question for the expert; according to the VIN, it is a 1500 and I've got 8 wheel lugs front and rear.
Should I assume I've got a Dana 60 at the back? |
Re: GMC 1962 - 3/4 t - Long bed - 305ci - 4 speed
1000 was considered a half ton
1500 and 2500 were 3/4 tons. Should be an Eaton H052 or H055 I think. I don't have a 62 manual. |
Re: GMC 1962 - 3/4 t - Long bed - 305ci - 4 speed
!500's to 66 were 3/4 to so it would be a Dana 60. 2500's to 66 were 1 ton and those would have the Eaton rear Diff:ok:

It may have been a heavy duty option, I've seen them with 60's as well.

Re: GMC 1962 - 3/4 t - Long bed - 305ci - 4 speed
It's also saying Model 1000 with HO35 rearend? That's odd because it's pretty much common knowledge all 1/2 ton 1000 series pickups came with the Dana 44. I guess we will only know if someone out there with a 60-61 GMC 1/2 or 3/4 ton pickup has a Corporate GM rear rather than a Dana 44 or 60:banghead:

Then it's most likely not correct! Figure 60-66 1000 series Dana 44 and 60-66 1500 series Dana 60:ok:

Welcome from South Dakota! Even though this is from a 10 year newer GMC, a Dana 60 still looked like this I believe, except cleaner and less rusty! I also "dig" your whole truck---LOL! The experts here may correct me, but did you know that the grill GMC logo appears to be 1966?

Photo of correct grill letters attached. It took me a while to find them (and a while more to spend $$ on them). At least you have a GMC hood, I was not so fortunate.

From the research I've done, if it is a Dana 60 there will be a number 60 on the back side lower right web below the right axle tube. here is the picture of my rear axle.

Took a gander under my 64. It's a Spicer or Dana 60 or dern close to it. I think in 60-61 they used the Eaton and in 62 they went Spicer/Dana. I need to get my 64 manual ordered. |
Re: GMC 1962 - 3/4 t - Long bed - 305ci - 4 speed
My '62 1500 has a Dana 60. Several years ago I pulled the 4.56 open carrier out and put in a PowerLoc 4.10.
