Rare GMC (model 1000) Trucks???
I keep being told my 63 GMC stepside longbed with a small rear window is rare? Does anyone know of the 1960 to 1966 models which ones are the rarest, in regards to the standard 1000 pickup? (Jolly) Is it kept recorded how many models were reproduced at the GMC factory? Just throwing the question out there for curiosity...

Re: Rare GMC (model 1000) Trucks???
Longbed stepsides with small windows were used often by forestry and other government services. This was to prevent the workmen from overloading them, as often happened with fleetsides. They were not rare in government work.
Production numbers were lost in a fire quite some time ago, but a general rule of thumb would be to use Chevrolet numbers for that year and divide by 4. |

Thank you Jeannie, that is good to know.

Re: Rare GMC (model 1000) Trucks???
Jeannie beat me to it but yeah theyre not all that rare of a build for the time, but I think (disclaimer: i dont know anything) theyre mostly broken and trashed since they were used in work places. Everyone wants a short box for modding into a mexican lowrider anymore.
They look better than most any other body type to me though. Longbed gives you good solid looking steps and a smoother ride, and being a stepper you get the neat detail factor. Its a win win! :goodluck: |
Re: Rare GMC (model 1000) Trucks???
I would think a short wideside bed would be more rare than the long fenderside, you don't see that many of them around. Same goes for the 1 ton 9 foot fenderside.

Hey, I ain't no princess! I've got '61 Apache 10, longbed, stepside, small back window. My favorite configuration, indeed a win-win.

I would have rather had the longstepper, but impatience got the best of me so LWB Fleetside it is. :)

Aphaynes you got a great truck. It was meant to be
for me it took me a few years to find Cecilia. And even after I found her the old farmer didn't want to let her go for a while. I finally convinced him that I wasn't going to rip her up and make her a low-rider or cut the dash with a butter knife for a new "boom car" stereo. He gave in and didn't rip my head off on price either. I'll be grateful forever. Maybe some day I can do the same for some kid with a respect for history. |
Re: Rare GMC (model 1000) Trucks???
As far as rare goes, any GMC pickup found today with the V6 engine still in place is rare.
Model 2500 with the 9 foot fender bed would be rare, I seen one in Ogden Utah at an auction once and a few online. but the really rare beast would be the 1960-62 model 3000, as this model was dropped from the line in 1963. I have seen one in person, and 4 online. |
