Trans for V12
Hey all,
I am looking for a trans for my V12. It came out of a COE. It has the clutch and bell-housing still on it. I just need the trans that bolts up to it. (SAE2 ?) Any help would be great!! I just want the manual trans, nothing fancy. Bob Sanders Castalia, NC 252-326-0493 |
Re: Trans for V12
Do they use the same trans as a regular v6?

Re: Trans for V12
It's possible that the 702ci V12 may used the same transmission in the B and L series that the larger 401 and 478 engines did but we're talking big truck stuff here like Clark and Fuller 5 speeds that dwarf the SM-420 that's in pickup trucks. Pete Chronis Northern Cal.

Re: Trans for V12
No, they are much bigger.

Re: Trans for V12
I never owned one or even driven one, but I believe that most if not all were either straight 5's or 5 and 2's (5-Speed Trans, 2-Speed Rears).
I believe my '62 6500 had a Clark in it. I can remember going through the owners manual and saw where there was an optional Fuller R-46 8-Speed Road Ranger available. Not sure if the 702 also had that option, but that early style trans was known as not the best trans ever built. Jolly's old site may have engine to trans combinations over there. Bill |

I would help to post a photo, this is what he is more likely working with.

Re: Trans for V12
Well, this is what it looks like. I just need the trans. I have everything else. It should be for an SAE2 mount.

Top bolts c to c is 11 7/8”
Bottom 12 7/8” up and down 6 5/8” 10 Spline That is a three cell Maglite. Bob http://insurrection-guild.com/sanmil...s/V12trans.JPG |
Re: Trans for V12
I was told the picture I posted was a SAE 2, that why I posted it. if you look at your bellhousing it is the same, I can see the round part, its got an adaptor of soem king on it too.

Re: Trans for V12
You are right that looks like the SAE2. (thanks) What I need, I believe, is the Clark 407V or a Clark 408V trans that will bolt to this. I was told that came on a model L-7000.
Maybe a better look at this. http://insurrection-guild.com/sanmills/pics/V12_011.JPG |
Re: Trans for V12
Not sure what Clark I had in my truck. I believe it can be figured out though by charts I have seen online, but 4th Gear and 5th Gear were pretty close to each other.
It actually changed the shift pattern when split shifting with the 2-Speed Rear. The pattern was: 1L 1H 2L 2H 3L 3H 4L 5L 4H 5H If you are using a straight 5 without a 2-Speed Rear, you may not want to use this trans. Bill |
Re: Trans for V12
If someone has a complete transmission that would fit on this thing, that would be great also. I am not picky about what I am using, I just need something. Thanks for all the info so far.

Re: Trans for V12
My 478 came with a Clark 305VO 5 speed. I'm pretty sure the bellhousing is the SAE #2.

Re: Trans for V12
CoyoteRun has a V12 and might have some info on transmissions in his area. You might try emailing some people on Ebay that sold the V12s. Ive seen a couple come through in the past couple of months. Check out this guy http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-Complete-G...6eb7b3&vxp=mtr

It's a long ways from you, but the V-12 stuff is hard to find anymore. I used custom adapters to mate a 700R4 auto. Pricey, but works nice. Good Luck |
Re: Trans for V12
I guess I don't need a trans any more.........thanks to all that tried
