Re: 1965 GMC 3500 Rescue Squad
The Master Cylinder Swap was not too bad, the worst part was getting the clutch to bleed back up.
First I needed to readjust the clutch linkage at the slave cylinder, because the adjustment I make last week was not needed & it just made the clutch slip. To remove the master cylinder, first undo the lines to the brakes & clutch. You mite want to invest in a 7/16 line wrench for this job as many folks have rounded the line nuts using a so called normal wrench. then remove the 3 bolts and it come right off. This is a photo I took the other day just before sundown, the moon was just a bright white speck in the sky, so I photoshopped in an image of the moon over that speck.

Thanks for the update on this truck! I never get tired of seeing pics of it. That is a great step by step on the master and slave cylinder replacement.
It seems I can never get help bleeding these hydraulics and no pressure bleeder either. These "Mity-Vac" vacuum guns work great although I would rather use one of the other two methods. My darn hands can get tired and the seal on the bleeders can be a bit difficult. Definitely a lifesaver when there's no other choice! I tee in a vacuum gauge to test vacuum advance units and solenoids too. DAC |
